Hearing aids are different from ordinary commodities. They belong to the second category of medical instruments and are more precise medical instruments. At the same time, hearing aids are also high-tech electronic products. Since they are electronic products, they must be most afraid of water, water vapor and so on. So, it is very important to avoid moisture. And for this situation, we often use is desiccant, drying box, electronic drying box and so on, as well as professional vacuum maintenance instrument of the testing center. Today we mainly talk about the use of desiccant and types and differences.

1.       What is hearing aid desiccant

We generally use the hearing aid desiccant is the main component of color-changing silica gel, this material has a strong absorption capacity of water vapor, thus the use of desiccant can effectively absorb the water vapor inside the hearing aid, as to achieve the purpose of hearing aid drying. When the color of the desiccant changes, it reminds us that the desiccant needs to be replaced. Hearing aid often dry processing, can effectively reduce water vapor damage to hearing aid, can prolong the service life of hearing aid, can avoid damage to hearing aid internal components, but also to avoid hearing aid sound smaller, silent failure rate.

2.      The types and differences of hearing aid desiccant

At present, there are two kinds of more common desiccant on the market, one is granular, one is oblate, no matter what kind of desiccant, its principle is basically the same. Both absorb water vapor to achieve a drying purpose.

It should be noted that there are blue and orange desiccant on the market. Blue desiccant has gradually been eliminated from the market, because its main ingredient is "cobalt chloride", which is a carcinogen and has been banned by the European Union. The main ingredient of orange desiccant is "methyl violet", which is less harmful to human body, so it is defined as non-toxic desiccant, and is the mainstream desiccant at present. So we try to choose orange desiccant, try not to use blue, if the use of blue, try not to direct contact, avoid contact with the mouth and nose, but also away from children, to avoid swallowing. No matter what kind of desiccant we use, wash our hands after use.

3.      How to use hearing aid desiccant

When we use desiccant, we usually put the desiccant in a container, such as a drying box. We should pay attention to some problems in the process of using:

A.     we need to separate the desiccant and hearing aid, do not bury the hearing aid in the desiccant. It's best to use something like a sponge or cotton cloth to separate them.To avoid desiccant particles into the hearing aid internal damage.

B.      To hearing aid dry, we need to open the battery door, and then put the hearing aid into the drying box, if we do not have a hearing aid for a long time, it is best to take out the battery, to avoid night leakage.

C.     In the drying process, we should often observe the color of the desiccant. If the color change has been very obvious, it means that the desiccant has lost its effect, and we should replace the desiccant.

D.     In the drying process, we should cover the lid of the drying box to avoid the external moisture, which will reduce the drying efficiency and is also a waste of desiccant.

4.      Some questions you should know about hearing aid desiccant

A.     When do I need to change the hearing aid desiccant?

Generally speaking, when the color of the desiccant and the initial color change greatly, it needs to be replaced, such as the blue becomes pink, and the orange becomes colorless. That means the desiccant has stopped working. We recommend that the blue desiccant be replaced as soon as it turns purple and the orange as soon as it turns light red.

B.      Can you reuse it after microwave or sun exposure?

This is actually ok, we can put the discolored desiccant in the microwave or in the sun, if the desiccant color back to the previous, or similar to the previous, then you can continue to use, if the recovery situation is not good, then you cannot continue to use.

C.     Can food desiccant replace hearing aid desiccant?

The answer is no, ordinary food desiccant and hearing aid desiccant components are not the same, their absorbency is also different. And ordinary food desiccant you can't judge by the eyes whether it is failure, so we still have to use special desiccant.

Hearing aid is a good helper for hearing impaired patients, hearing aid desiccant is a good partner of hearing aid, if you want hearing aid to work well for them, it is necessary to do a good job of drying.
